From the 8th to the 10th of October 2010 Mr McDonnell along with Ms Mulkerins, Miss McKeown and Miss McGill took 32 GCSE Geography students to the South East coast to visit Kingswood activity centre in Kent. The aim of the visit was to help us all with our GCSE course by experiencing firsthand, how tourism affected different towns around the area as well as taking part in team building and adrenalin pumping adventure activities.
As soon as we arrived at Kingswood on Friday afternoon we were thrust into the action with a zip wire activity for groups 8 and 9 and a heart racing go on the 3G swing for group 10.

As well as a weekend of laser shooting, indoor rock climbing and several very competitive games of football, we also visited the local towns of Margate and Whitstable. These are two very contrasting towns that have been affected by tourism in two very different ways. By questioning locals and tourists in both towns and completing surveys on the number of cars and noise levels in certain areas in both towns we were really able to gain valuable first hand information into the positive and negative effects tourism had had in both Margate and Whitstable.
My personal highlight from the trip was definitely seeing Mr McDonnell and Miss Mulkerins absolutely petrified on the 3G swing as well as visiting Whitstable and experiencing a lovely new town that I definitely want to visit again. I think as a group the main highlights were really coming together as a group, and working together during the adventure activities as well as helping us gain a better grade in GCSE Geography at the same time! Overall I think it was fantastic experience for all and really enjoyed by everyone that took part and definitely something we’d all love to do again.
